Customers often ask us the same question: Does using tap water instead of coolant corrode the diesel generator water tank? Regarding the explanation of this problem, our generator Jiangsu Taizhou Dongkang Co., Ltd. specially organized a technical team to conduct a discussion:
Tap water replacement coolant for generator sets is generally divided into the following types: 1. Well water 2. Water from tap 3, river water. Generally, the main condensable tap water in remote areas is well water, while most customers in urban areas use tap water. The trace minerals in tap water themselves will not corrode the water tank! The cause of corrosion of the generator set fan cooling water tank is an electrochemical reaction. If it is manufacturedMade of real 304, 316L stainless steel and copper, it will not be corroded at all. the nickel content is insufficient and it will be used for a long time without adding chlorine. Pure water can also corrode! The cooling water tank material of ordinary domestic brand generator sets is generally 202 and 304 stainless steel. Generally, manufacturers use genuine 304 stainless steel materials, while many unscrupulous manufacturers use steel 202 stainless steel. As mentioned above, genuine 304 stainless steel will not corrode when used with tap water. However, after a long time, the chloride ions in tap water will ionize and turn the stainless steel a dark color. If 202 is used, corrosion will occur after prolonged washing and soaking. Therefore, we recommend customers to use at least pure watere or tap water. Customers who have conditions can use vehicle coolant directly.
