Nanshui Reservoir is located in Ruyuan Yao Autonomous County, Shaoguan City. Construction of the reservoir began in 1958 and was completed in 1969. The reservoir dam is 80.2 meters high and has a storage capacity of 1.28 billion cubic meters. The reservoir area enjoys a mid-subtropical humid monsoon climate, with average annual precipitation of over 1,800 mm and abundant freshwater resources. This also ensures that there is sufficient water injection into the Nanshui Reservoir. The distribution of rainwater in the reservoir area is uneven, with more rain in spring and summer and less in autumn and winter. Nanshui Lake is located in the west of Ruyuan County, 15 kilometers from the county. It has a water surface of 57,000 acres, a storage capacity of 1.2 billion cubic meters and a maximum depth of120 meters. It is the third largest artificial reservoir in Guangdong province. The water quality is excellent and it is a premier drinking water source protection area. The lake is shaped like a belt, with vast waters and beautiful lake and mountain scenery. There are 12 islands in the lake, like 12 emeralds embedded in Nanshui Lake.
