Single-headed garlic seed planting is divided into single-headed garlic sowing technology, how to select garlic seeds, how to select seed cloves, seeding technology management and harvesting technology.
1. Seeding technology.
When sowing, first dig trenches with a row spacing of 15 cm and a trench depth of approximately 6 cm. Then sow the petals with a spacing of 3 to 4 cm between the plants, then cover. with soil to a thickness of 3 to 4 cm. Once the entire border is sown, distribute the radish seeds evenly, using about 1 pound of seed per acre. After sowing, rake the surface of the border and irrigate it.
The purpose of mixed sowing of radish seeds is to take advantage of the rapid germination and emergence characteristics of radish to inhibit the growth of garlic plants, thereby increasing the rate ofsingle head and reducing garlic cloves.
2. Select garlic for planting.
The garlic cloves used to produce single-head garlic should be small garlic cloves, so generally choose garlic varieties with more garlic cloves and smaller garlic cloves. However, when the garlic cloves are the same but the garlic varieties are different, the percentage and weight of the resulting garlic heads are significantly different, thereby affecting the yield and quality of the single garlic.
Therefore, before embarking on the production of single-headed garlic, a comparative test of varieties should be carried out to select varieties suitable for local planting, having a production rate of higher single-headed garlic and higher single-headed weight. .
3. Select the distribution valves.
The size of garlic cloves is linked to the yieldnt and the quality of the garlic. Only by selecting appropriately sized garlic cloves for garlic seeds can you get a high rate of single-head garlic and medium-sized single-head garlic.
If the seed valve is too large, small garlic heads with 2-3 garlic cloves will be produced, reducing the output of a single head; if the seed valve is too small, the garlic has one head; the production will be too small and the value of the garlic will be lost. Generally, the weight of a single head of garlic should reach 5 to 8 grams.
In order to produce single head garlic with high single head rate and appropriate size, it is necessary to conduct experiments on the relationship between seed valve size, rate of a single head and the weight of a single head. According to Hubei's production experience, when using small garlic cloves from local white-skinned garlic varieties as seed cloves, the pWeight of 100 grains should be less than 90 grams.
4. Management technology.
After the radish plants have emerged, divide the plants keeping a distance of 6 to 8 cm. Once all the radishes have been harvested and released to market in early spring of the following year, the garlic fields are managed through cultivation, weeding, cover dressing and irrigation. During the garlic expansion period, an adequate supply of water should be ensured. Choose sandy loam or light loamy soil for planting single-head garlic and avoid continuous crops. After harvesting the previous crop, apply 250 kilograms of decomposed ring fertilizer and 50 kilograms of superphosphate per acre as base fertilizer. After shallow plowing and harrowing, a flat border approximately 1.4 meters wide was made.
5. Harvesting technology.
In fall sowing areas,Dig up the garlic in early summer (early May), when the pseudostems soften and most of the lower leaves dry out. If harvested too early, the garlic will not be full; if harvested late, the garlic skin will become tough and difficult to process. For single-headed garlic for processing, the false stems and fibrous roots should be cut off immediately after being dug and transported to processing. The plant should be protected from sun and rain. As fresh garlic is sold in the market, it should be dried in the sun for 2 to 3 days after digging to prevent it from getting moldy. The general yield per mu is 300 to 500 kilograms.
