The text of ISO 948:1980 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 34 “Food Products” of the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken over as EN ISO 948:2009.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by January 2010, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at
the latest by January 2010.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following
countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech

Foreword
IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of
national standards institutes (IS0 member bodies). The work of developing Interna-
tional Standards is carried out through IS0 technical committees. Every member body
interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been set up has the right to
be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-
governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to
the member bodies for approval before their acceptance as International Standards by
the IS0 Council.
International Standard IS0 948 was developed by Technical Committee ISO/TC 34,
Agricultural food products.
It was submitted directly to the IS0 Council, in accordance with clause 5.10.1 of part 1
of the Directives for the technical work of ISO. It cancels and replaces IS0 Recommen-
dation R 9484969, which had been approved by the member bodies of the following
countries :
