BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 152, Marking of Wooden Hatchway Covers, was drawn
up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 8, Shipbuilding Details, the Secretariat of which is held
by the Stichting Nederlands Normalisatie-instituut (NNI).
Technical Committee ISO/TC 8, during its third meeting, held in Genoa, in November
1956, discussed a draft proposal based on the Netherlands Standard N 1333, concerning
the marking of wooden hatchway covers. This proposal was unanimously adopted by the
members of the Technical Committee present at that third meeting.
At the request of France, the Note on the fourth page was afterwards rectified to
provide that the decks be indicated if the hatchway beams are equally spaced. In this case,
the hatchway covers are of the same length and do not need transverse lines to indicate the
section of the hatchway of which these covers form part. The deck in which the hatchway
to be covered is situated must now be indicated by one transverse line of the colour used
for identifying the deck concerned.
The final letter ballot within the Technical Committee brought out the fact that
there were no objections to this draft and it was adopted as a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
On 4 December 1958, the Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 261) was distributed to
all the IS0 Member Bodies and was approved by the following Member Bodies:
Austria France Spain
Belgium Israel Sweden
Bulgaria Italy Turkey
Burma Japan United Kingdom
Czechoslovakia Net herlands U.S.S.R.
Denmark Pakistan
Finland Romania
No Member Body opposed the approval of the Draft.
The Draft IS0 Recommendation was then submitted by correspondence to the IS0
Council, which decided, in February 1960, to accept it as an IS0 RECOMMENDATION.
