BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 628, Common Names for Pesticides - Seventh List, was
drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 81, Common Names for Pesticides, the Secretariat
of which is held by the British Standards Institution (BSI).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee began in 1955 and led, in 1963, to the
adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
In April 1964, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 725) was circulated to all the IS0
Member Bodies for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial
nature, by the following Member Bodies :
Australia India Sweden
Austria Iran Switzerland
Belgium Ireland Turkey
Brazil Israel United Kingdom
Canada Italy U.S.A.
Colombia Netherlands U.S. S. R.
Czechoslovakia Portugal Yugoslavia
Denmark Republic of
Greece South Africa
Hungary Spain
Two Member Bodies opposed the approval of the Draft:
France
Germany
The Draft IS0 Recommendation was then submitted by correspondence to the IS0
Council, which decided, in October 1967, to accept it as an IS0 RECOMMENDATION.

COMMON NAMES FOR PESTICIDES
SEVENTH LIST *
FOREWORD
This IS0 Recommendation gives the seventh list of common names approved by Technical
Committee ISO/TC 8 1, Common Names for Pesticides, for certain pesticides of international
importance. The chemical name in conformity with the rules of the International Union of
Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) is given in each case. The names given are generally
those following the system of the Secretariat country; it is recognized that other English
speaking countries follow different variations of the IUPAC rules, but these names are not
considered to be sufficiently different to cause confusion. Chemical formulae are given to-
gether with notes concerning some of the names. The application of each compound is given
in a separate column according to the following classes:
A Insecticides or acaricides
B Fungicides
C Herbicides
D Rodenticides
It is proposed in due course to issue further IS0 Recommendations for approved common
names. In some cases, widely used names are not available for international use at the present
time, because they are protected by trade marks in certain countries.
* The previously issued lists constitute the subject-matter of the following IS0 Recommendations:
R 116, Common Names for Pesticides. First List,
R 219, Common Names for Pesticides. Second List,
R 258, Common Names for Pesticides. Third List,
R 290, Common Names for Pesticides. Fourth List,
R 411, Common Names for Pesticides. Fijth List,
R 566, Common Names for Pesticides. Sixth List.
