Iso 8233 : 1988 (El Foreword IS0 (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (IS0 member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through IS0 technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, govern- mental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. IS0 collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for approval before their acceptance as International Standards by the IS0 Council. They are approved in accordance with IS0 procedures requiring at least 75 % approval by the member bodies voting. International Standard IS0 8233 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 138, Plastics pipes, fittings and valves for the transport of fluids. Users should note that all International Standards undergo revision from time to time and that any reference made herein to any other International Standard implies its latest edition, unless otherwise stated. 0 International Organization for Standardization, 1988 Printed in Switzerland SIST EN 28233:1997
INTERNATIONAL STANDARD IS0 8233 : 1988 (El Thermoplastics valves - Torque - Test method I Scope This International Standard specifies a test method for the determination of the opening and closing torque of thermo- plastics valves. 2 Field of application This International Standard applies to all types of thermo- plastics valves intended to be used for the transport of fluids. 3 References IS0 W-1, Thermoplastics pipes for the transport of fluids - Nominal outside diameters and nominal pressures - Part I: Metric series. I SO 6708, Pipe components - Definition of nominal size. IS0 7349, Thermoplastics valves - Connection references. 4 Definitions For the purposes of this International Standard, the definition of the nominal diameter (DN) given in IS0 6708 and the follow- ing definitions apply. 4.1 closing torque: Torque exerted over the full closing operation to achieve full tightness of the valve at nominal pressure. 4.2 opening torque : Torque exerted initially to open the valve from fully closed or over the full opening operation. 4.3 nominal pressure (PN): Alphanumeric designation, used for reference purposes, related to the mechanical strength of a valve. Usually it corresponds to the service pr
