China's large power stations include:
The first hydropower station, Yunnan Shilongba Hydropower Station, installed two 240-kilowatt hydroelectric generator units. Construction started in 1908 and was completed in 1912.
The first cascade hydropower station, Fujian Gutianxi Level 1 Hydropower Station, with an installed capacity of 62,000 kilowatts, started construction in March 1951.
Shangyoujiang Hydropower Station in Jiangxi, the earliest in-dam power station, has an installed capacity of 60,000 kilowatts. The first unit was put into operation in October 1957.
