From “Seven Pastoral Music No. 6 / Quiet Residence” by Wang Wei of the Tang Dynasty
Peach red contains rain, and willow green also contains morning smoke.
The flowers have fallen, the children have not taken away the house, the orioles are singing and the mountain guests are still sleeping.
Translation
The red peach blossoms still contain the cool rain from the night before, and the green willow silk carries a faint hint of spring smoke.
The petals have fallen, the children in the house have not cleaned, the orioles are singing and the quiet visitors to the mountain are still sleeping soundly.
Fallen flowers should be swept away, but “the children of the family did not sweep them away.” The reason we haven't swept is because people haven't gotten up early in the morning yet. The scene of flowers falling to the ground, without anyone paying attention, exudes an atmosphereunique and calm. This is exactly the area that Wang Wei prefers. The word “Unswept” was obtained intentionally or unintentionally, without any effort and without leaving a trace.
This poem is written at the end of spring sleep, when people sleep deeply and peacefully, knowing nothing about the outside world. Although there is movement and sound in the falling flowers and orioles, it only makes the residence and state of mind of the "mountain host" more and more peaceful, it This is why the artistic conception mainly focuses on the word "calm". Wang Weizhi's "joy" is also there. The idea of advocating silence has an inherent negative side. However, Wang Wei's poetry is valuable because of the difference between his tranquility and solitude. It can use movement and stillness to complement each other, and write life and interest in stillness, which always leaves people fresh and bright.
