1. Rotating lantern. 2. Turn off the lights. 3. Rabbit lamp.
Candles are lit in the rotating lantern and the heat generated by the candles causes a flow of air, causing the axle to rotate. There is a paper cut on the axle of the wheel, and the candlelight casts the shadow of the paper cut on the screen, and the image keeps moving. Because there are many images of ancient military commanders riding horses on either side of the lamp, and when the lamp rotates, it looks like several people are chasing each other, that's why it is called the rotating lantern. The Guandao lantern is made according to the legend that Guan Gong used the Qinglong Yanyue sword during his life. This has the meaning of protecting peace. The rabbit lantern has three heads juxtaposed into a single body. The middle head is large and is commonly called "rabbit woman". The heads on both sides are smaller, which is why wecalled “slender rabbit”. It is made of bamboo strips as a frame and red, white and green paper. A wick is inserted in the middle, which can be lit and taken away. Since rabbits can give birth to children, the rabbit lantern means having many children and grandchildren.
The lanterns come from Emperor Wu of the Han dynasty who set up an altar in the palace to worship the Sun God, the noblest god of the time, on the 15th day of the first lunar month. As it took place all night, the lanterns had to be lit all night. It was the start of the Lantern Festival.
