Dolphins are small to medium-sized cetaceans. Body length is about 1.5 to 10 meters, and weight is 50 to 7 thousand kg. Males are generally larger than females. Most dolphins have distinctive head features. Due to the presence of lens-shaped fat, the forehead bulges in front of the beak, also known as the "frontal ridge". This structure makes it possible to capture the sounds emitted by echolocation and the search for food. Although some dolphins have frontal crests, they have shorter beaks and a raised forehead that only emphasizes a square appearance. Most dolphins have a sleek, smooth body with a finhook-shaped dorsal (other shapes also exist). Some dolphins have eye-catching colorful patterns on their bodies, while others have duller colors.
